This is probably the most common problem we get called out for. Because of the wide variety of taps we have on the market today we can no longer just say that the tap needs a new washer. Some of the faults are listed below;
Washer is worn:
We must change the tap washer.
Depending how old the tap is this could be very quick or could result in the tap head breaking.
Washer set is cracked:
The seat or solid base where the washer is pushed against to close off water is broken or cracked.
Most times all it needs is to be re-seated
It’s a fancy word for filing the crack away.
If the crack is really bad then we will need to change the whole tap.
Cost of this will depend on where the tap is installed and how easy it is to come off.
Tap head is stripped or is to hard to close:
We will need to change tap head.
Cost of this will depend on type of tap. Tap heads vary in price.
Old ones may not even be available anymore and the whole tap may need to be replaced.
Mixer Cartridge is broken:
Most mixers have cartridges instead of the normal washers.
The whole cartridge will need to be replaced.
The cost again depends on the type of mixer and availability of spares.
The cost ranges from R150.00 to over R400.00 each.
