Basin Drain Blocked
Have you tried the plunger yet?? Most homeowners have a plunger in the hose.[pic of plunger] Place it over the waste [pic of waste] and give it a few pushes.
- All basins will have what we call a P or S trap that connects the waste of the basin to the actual drain pipe going to the sewer. 8 out of 10 times it is this that is blocked. We will need to take the P/S trap off and clean it if it is in good working order. Or else we will replace it.
- If the P/S trap is not blocked then it may be the pipe that takes the waste water to the main outside drain.
- We will need to find the easiest access points to get our rods into the drain. If there are no access points as seen in our pictures, then we will have to make access. This may involve taking out cupboards and/or chiseling the floor or wall to follow the pipe.
If we cannot unblock the pipe due to a solid blockage then we may have to trace the pipe and chisel it up. Normally when there has been some building or painting that’s when basins get blocked up due to the paint and cement that makes its way down the drain. AVOID CLEANING BRUSHES AND BUCKETS WITH CEMENT IN THEM OVER YOUR BASINS!!!.
At times the gully outside may be blocked and cause the basin waste water to overflow this will need to be unblocked.
- On the rare occasion the basin may, after the P/S trap , be connected directly to the drain. This will then mean the main drain will need to be unblocked.
